A massive new subdivision in Hyde Park is looking to bring a community feel to a big-box neighbourhood.

 

Auburn Developments received approval Monday from council’s planning and environment committee for a new look to a proposed subdivision six years in the making.

 

Construction on the project, which would add more than 900 homes at Sunningdale and Hyde Park roads, could start this fall.

It was revealed this week that the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation is trying to keep tabs on foreign money in Canada's residential real estate market.

 

The national housing agency has come under fire in recent years for a conspicuous lack of reliable data about the money coming from abroad and how it may be contributing to soaring home prices in cities like Vancouver and Toronto.

Canada's national housing agency is starting to use new tools to get a handle on just how much foreign money is flowing into the country's housing market.

 

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) told CBC News on Monday that the housing agency has been in contact with police agencies that track money laundering and tax authorities in order to beef up its data collection on the impact of foreign buyers.

KITCHENER — The Kitchener-Waterloo Association of Realtors recorded 452 house sales in February, up 28.2 per cent from the same month a year ago.

 

Last month's sales included 280 single-detached homes (up 40.7 per cent from February 2015), 33 semi-detached homes (down 17.5 per cent), 31 townhouses (up 6.9 per cent) and 103 condo units (up 25.6 per cent).
